FAA OKs Amazon Delivery Drone Testing

But only under certain conditions.

The Federal Aviation Administration granted Web retailer Amazon its “experimental airworthiness certificate” Thursday, giving it permission to test delivery drones. The drones will only be allowed to fly during daylight in clear weather. Each drone must be piloted by someone with a private pilot’s license and it must not leave the operator’s sight. There must also be an observer present.
