Four Alaskan native men who were convicted for the 1997 killing of Fairbanks teen John Hartman were freed late Thursday as part of a deal with prosecutors. In return for having their charges dismissed, the men agreed to withdraw claims of prosecutorial misconduct and to not sue the city or the state of Alaska. The Daily Beast brought the story to national light several weeks ago, noting that racist investigators had tainted how justice was meted out in this case.
