The prolific fantasy, science fiction, and mystery Jack Vance has died at the age of 96. John Holbrook Vance was best known for the series The Dying Earth and the novels The Dragon Masters and The Last Castle, both of which won the Hugo Award, in 1963 and 1967. Writers such as Ursula Le Guin, George R.R. Martin, Gene Wolfe, Jack L Chalker, and Michael Chabon have all cited Vance as an influence. His son John said the author, who wrote more than 60 books during his lifetime, died Sunday.
