FAO Schwarz’s flagship location in New York City—the same store in which the famous floor piano-playing scene from Big was filmed—will close on Wednesday night. FAO Schwarz owner Toys R Us announced the store’s shutdown in May, citing the rising costs of rent for the store’s 45,000-square-foot location on Fifth Avenue. The store claims to be the oldest toy store in the U.S., open since 1870. Treats inside included a candy section, personal shoppers, and three floors of specialty toy departments. Toys R Us said in a statement that it plans to move the store to another midtown Manhattan location "that will no doubt delight generations of children to come."
