Fast Food Strikes Spread

The fast-food strikes that began in New York eight months ago are spreading across the country, with walkouts in St. Louis, Kansas City, Detroit, and Flint yesterday and more planned for Milwaukee today. The workers, who walk out during peak mealtimes, are demanding higher pay in an industry whose median wage is $9.05 an hour. The fast-food industry says the $15 an hour wage protesters are asking for would force them to close or prompt restaurant owners to replace workers with computerized order-taking screens.
