The FBI has found evidence of a bomb behind Thursday explosion near a Santa Monica synagogue and has linked the blast to an “extremely dangerous” homeless man, Ron Hirsch. The explosion sent a 300-pound metal and concrete pipe up into the air before it crashed through the roof of a home next door to Santa Monica’s Chabad House. Officials have not said how they linked the explosion—originally thought to be a freak accident—to the suspect. Though they do not yet know the motive for the attack, they have ruled out the possibility of a terrorist plot. Hirsch, 60, was being sought on several alarming charges including possession of a destructive device. He is known to visit synagogues and Jewish community centers in the area in search of charity.
