FBI Chief: I Won’t Use Orlando Shooter’s Name

FBI Director James Comey refuses to use the name of the shooter who killed 49 people early Sunday morning at a gay nightclub in Orlando. During a Monday morning press briefing, reiterating what the FBI had discussed with President Obama, Comey noted: “You will notice that I’m not using the killer’s name and I will try not to do that.” He explained: “Part of what motivates sick people to do this kind of thing is some twisted notion of fame or glory. And I don’t want to be part of that for the sake of the victims and their families. And so that other twisted minds don’t think that this is a path to fame and recognition. So what I want to do is give you a sense of what we know so far and then tell you as much as I can about our past contact with the killer.”
