The FBI seized several Web servers early Tuesday in a raid, causing numerous websites to go offline. The FBI raided a hosting facility in Reston, Virginia, used by the server DigitalOne, which is based in Switzerland. DigitalOne’s chief said in an email to a client that “this problem was caused by the FBI, not our company” and said the FBI had taken down “tens of clients” while interested in only one suspect. Some of the sites taken down included the New York-based Curbed Network, Instapaper, and Pinboard. DigitalOne had no employees at the facility when the raid occurred at around 1:15 a.m., and the facility center’s operator said it lasted about three hours.
