FDA Sets New Sunscreen Rules

The FDA has traditionally only required sunscreens to protect against sunburns, but they’ll now have to protect against skin cancer and wrinkles too. The new rules require sunscreens that only protect against ultraviolet B rays—which cause sunscreen-and not ultraviolet A rays—which cause skin cancer and wrinkles—to carry a warning label. The new rules also do away with “waterproof” and “sweatproof” labels, which the FDA says “are exaggerations of performance.”
