New Hampshire’s ban on voting-booth selfies is unconstitutional, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday, upholding a lower-court ruling that decided the same. The law originated in 2014 when the Granite State criminalized voters taking and sharing photographs of their ballots on social media. In its unanimous ruling, the three-judge panel of the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said that outlawing such selfies “is like burning down the house to roast the pig,” and concluded their ruling with the quote, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Twenty-six other states explictly ban voting-booth selfies.
