A federal appeals court on Friday ruled against Brendan Dassey, the Wisconsin inmate featured in Netflix’s Making a Murderer, overturning a ruling that could have freed him. According to the Associated Press, in a contentious 4-3 vote, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Dassey’s confession was not coerced and therefore properly obtained by police. Dassey is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted of aiding his uncle, Steven Avery, in raping and killing Teresa Halbach.
