FedEx shareholders have refused to end their stadium sponsorship of the Washington Redskins. At a shareholder meeting Monday, they rejected a proposal from the Oneida Indian tribe to “drop or distance” the company from the Washington Redskins, whose stadium—FedExField—it sponsors. FedEx did not immediately disclose its vote count, but said it would be included in the SEC filing it will submit later Monday. “We highly value our sponsorship of FedExField, which not only hosts the Washington Redskins, but is home to a variety of major entertainment and sports events and multiple community activities,” said FedEx senior vice president for marketing and communications Patrick Fitzgerald in a emailed statement. Native Americans and their supporters argue the Redskins name is deeply offensive. “We are the only race of people dehumanized by an NFL team,” Susan White, director of the Oneida Trust of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin, told shareholders. “Washington Redskins is the most egregious.”
