Federal officials have charged the man who rushed the stage Saturday at a Donald Trump campaign event in Ohio, forcing Secret Service agents to form a circle around the GOP frontrunner. Thomas DiMassimo was charged with knowingly entering restricted grounds, and he’s scheduled to appear in court next week. Over the weekend, DiMassimo was charged by local officials with disorderly conduct and inducing panic. “All the evidence is clear that Thomas really meant to do nothing except to assert a political view point,” said Jon Paul Rion, DiMassimo’s lawyer. Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy said Tuesday that agents with presidential candidates are responsible for protecting their charge, not dealing with protesters in general. “If there are protesters, if there are people that are disrupting the event, that is not our primary responsibility,” Clancy said. “We are there to protect our protectee.”
