The Justice Department filed papers with the U.S. District Court in Tampa on Tuesday in an effort to halt Florida’s ongoing purge of those the state suspects are not citizens from the voter rolls in advance of the 2012 election. The filing charges that state officials are violating the Voting Rights Act by not getting permission from the DOJ to change voting procedures. Florida officials vowed to continue the removal process and incorporate new citizenship data from the Department of Homeland Security.
