Islamophobia continues to rear its ugly head: The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating a fire at the construction site of a Murfreesboro, Tennessee, mosque that has been the subject of many protests in the area. Four items of heavy construction equipment were covered with accelerant and one was set on fire. The feds are not yet officially calling it arson and are asking locals for tips. Essam Fathy, chairman of the mosque’s planning commission, was giving an interview to cable news when several people heard five or six gunshots. Police are calling it an unconfirmed report. Later, a car drove by blaring “Dixie.” Some in the Muslim community there believe the suspected arson was a warning to the construction company working on the planned 53,000 square foot house of worship.
