The U.S. Department of Education is investigating a 2009 case of alleged rape at the University of Michigan by a football player, the Detroit News learned Thursday. The feds are seeing whether the university failed to promptly respond to the case that saw former kicker Brendan Gibbons arrested but not charged with rape five years ago. The Title IX complaint (named for the law that prohibits gender discrimination) alleges the university did not investigate the rape case, though it did expel Gibbons for violating the school's sexual-misconduct policy.
