Could you do three pullups? Well, 65 percent of female Marines in boot camp can't. As a result, the Marine Corps said Thursday it would delay the requirement that women soldiers do at least three pullups as a test of their upper body strength. Instead, they can do a "flexed-arm hang" for a minimum of 15 seconds (a perfect score being 70 seconds). Fitness tests are being updated to accomodate thousands of women for jobs in infantry, armor, and artillery. If a job is closed to a woman, the Pentagon must explain why.
