Female veterans commit suicide at a rate twice that of male veterans and six times the rate of civilian women, according to new research by the Department of Veteran Affairs. The V.A. examined the 173,969 total suicides committed by all people between 2000 and 2010 in 23 states. Women in general attempt suicide more often than men, but are less successful because they don't often use guns. Female veterans are more likely to have guns.
