Fidel Castro Bashes Obama After Cuba Trip

In his first public response to President Obama’s visit last week, former Cuban President Fidel Castro penned a scathing letter published Monday calling the American leader’s words “syrupy” and harmful. “We don’t need any gifts from the empire,” Castro wrote in Granma, the Cuban Communist Party’s newspaper. The elderly ex-dictator wrote that Obama’s feel-good words about brotherhood were enough to give Cubans a “heart attack,” and that perhaps the United States should reflect upon its own politics before judging the Castro regime.
