FIFA to Meet in July on New President

FIFA will meet in July to discuss a timeline for the election to replace embattled President Sepp Blatter, who announced his resignation four days after being re-elected. Soccer’s world governing body said it will hold an extraordinary executive committee meeting and that there were “various date options” for its congress to meet. The statement did not confirm a BBC report that the election would take place on Dec. 16. The executive committee will also need to decide on a deadline for candidates to declare their bid for the presidency, which includes written support from five national associations. Domenico Scala, FIFA’s independent head of audit and compliance, said last week the election would happen between December 2015 and March 2016.
