The world’s first face-transplant recipient, Isabelle Dinoire, has died, 11 years after the historic surgery. Dinoire, of France, was 49 years old at the time of her death in April, which came following a long battle with an undisclosed illness. Hospital officials confirmed the news Tuesday but have not provided more details. Dinoire’s transplant was performed after she was severely injured by her pet Labrador retriever. Her groundbreaking operation lasted 15 hours and involved a new nose, lips, and chin.
