The White House is making history again with the appointment of a new social secretary. Jeremy Bernard is both the first man and the first openly gay person to fill the role, the administration announced Friday. Bernard replaces Julianna Smoot, who filled in when Desirée Rogers, who was the first African-American social secretary, left. Bernard, currently senior adviser to the ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, previously worked as the White House liaison to the National Endowment for the Humanities.
