Mayon volcano in the Philippines on Tuesday. (ABS-CBN/AP)
At least five people are dead and another seven were injured when a volcano in the Philippines erupted on Tuesday. The victims were climbing Mount Mayon, which is known for its near-perfect cone, and were reportedly killed by rocks that spewed out of the volcano. The eruption lasted only 73 seconds but sent ash about 500 meters into the air. Although there was no advisory issued before the eruption, Mount Mayon is known for its volatility as well as small steam and ash ejections.
