Richie Havens, the folk singer and guitarist who was the very first performer to take the stage at Woodstock in 1969, died of a heart attack Monday at age 72. Havens, who has released more than 25 albums, returned to Woodstock for its 40th anniversary in 2009, and performed at Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993. His last album, Nobody Left to Crown, was released in 2008. “I really sing songs that move me,” Havens once told The Denver Post. “I’m not in show business; I’m in the communications business.
