Fox News Host Compares Dem Midterm Turnout to ‘Saddam Hussein Numbers’
COME AGAIN?
Fox News host Bill Hemmer compared Democratic turnout in the midterm elections to “Saddam Hussein numbers” during a broadcast Tuesday morning. Hemmer and his fellow hosts were discussing progressive Democrats, specifically a recent comment by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). At an event, Pelosi first complimented Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), then said that any Democrat could have won in both her own district in California and AOC’s in New York. “When we won this election it wasn’t in districts like mine or Alexandria’s—she’s a wonderful member of Congress, I think all of our colleagues will attest—but those are districts that are solidly Democratic,” Pelosi said. “This glass of water would win with a D next to its name in those districts.” Hemmer responded by agreeing with Pelosi, then compared Democratic turnout in those districts to election results of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. “In these house districts around New York City, you look at the results of this election from 2018, it’s 72 percents, 78 percents, 85 percents, 92 percent, I mean those are Saddam Hussein numbers... that’s the margin of vote he was getting for Iraq.”
