With New York prosecutors set to drop all charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, French Socialists are preparing for the former IMF chief’s homecoming. The man who replaced Strauss-Kahn as the Socialists’ leading candidate for president, François Hollande, said Strauss-Kahn’s return to politics “could be envisaged.” Strauss-Kahn missed, however, the July deadline to participate in presidential elections as a Socialist; it’s possible that the six Socialist candidates could agree to waive the filing requirement and allow him to enter. Strauss-Kahn, of course, is still facing sexual assault allegations in France.
