France Recognizes Libyan Rebels

France became the first country Thursday to recognize the Libyan rebels as the country’s legitimate government. French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s office said it now regards the National Libyan Council as “legitimate representation.” Libya’s illegitimate leader Muammar Gaddafi, meanwhile, is continuing its assault on the rebel-held port Ras Lanuf and bombing the city of Brega. NATO will meet in Brussels Thursday to discuss military options in Libya.
