French police in Nice are continuing to enforce a ban on burkinis, despite a court ruling that rendered the ban illegal. Police in Nice came under fire this week, after photos showed them forcing a woman to remove her burkini, a full-body swimsuit preferred by some Muslim women. The controversial burkini ban was ruled illegal by France's top court on Friday, with judges declaring the law a "serious and clearly illegal violation of fundamental freedoms". But authorities in some beach towns say they will continue to enforce the measure, even if it means breaking the law. After the court ruling, new signage appeared on some Nice beaches, banning “beachwear which ostentatiously displays religious affiliation.”
