French opponents of gay marriage are furious that United Russia apparently lifted their logo without permission and used it on their own flag touting heterosexual parents as the only “real” type of family. Previously, party leaders had suggested they’d obtained permission to use the design from French allies. “We have a very precise charter that sets a number of conditions, including one that we remain nonpartisan,” one French activist said, adding that would preclude their group from partnering with a political party even if United Russia had asked for permission.
