Who ever said things were slow in the dead of August? When it comes to the red carpet, this week was anything but. There was Rob Pattinson in his perfect comeback suit; Ryan Lochte channeling a Navy SEAL on his day off—and Paul Ryan hoofing around in cowboy boots. The women’s category was just as eventful, with Jessica Biel wearing a furry tutu and flashing side-boob, and Chloë Sevigny being expectedly gender neutral.

Kate Beckinsale makes so few red-carpet appearances these days, so when she goes on a global press tour to promote a movie you have to stop and watch for a minute. Becks traversed the world to promote Total Recall, and she did just fine. She wore a nude Naeem Khan dress with rose embroidery, which was flattering if not a little old lady-ish, to the Berlin premiere on Monday, and a delightful neon number by Preen. At the London premiere on Thursday night, she wore a Donna Karan black dress with glittery sequin details. High marks all around.

Camilla Belle keeps a low profile, but when she hits a red carpet, it’s rarely a misstep. At the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 event at Lincoln Center Wednesday night, Belle wore a Resort 2013 Jason Wu frock with a Jimmy Choo clutch.

Viola Davis wore a simple white silk Vivienne Westwood dress to the CBS Teachers Rock concert on a boiling hot night in L.A. on Tuesday. And she looked completely summery and just all-around nice: no outlandish accessories; no klunky shoes. It was just right.

Sometimes MObama is so effortless that it feels like she’s phoning it in. That’s how it seemed when she graced The Tonight Show Tuesday to yuk it up with Jay Leno in a sheer yellow and green dress by Bibhu Mohapatra. And she shared the spotlight with Gabby Douglas, who, by contrast, looked like a typical 16-year-old in a BCBGMAXAZRIA leather jacket and gold miniskirt.

Chloë Sevigny has always expertly mixed the feminine and masculine—and her getup at the Cinema Society screening of Lawless on Monday night was no exception. She wore a Versace Jeans Couture sundress with Opening Ceremony Chelsea boots and a black leather bag from Opening Ceremony’s fall 2012 collection.

When called upon to walk the red carpet for the first time since his breakup with Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson did what any self-respecting gent would do: he picked himself up, showered, and put on a perfectly tailored Gucci suit. The jilted actor appeared on The Daily Show Monday night to share a few pints of ice cream and poke fun at himself—and later commanded everyone’s attention at the premiere of his film, Cosmpolis. The overall score of the evening? Pattinson, 1, Stewart, -100.

Jessica Biel’s Total Recall press tour has been generally strong: a Valentino pantsuit, a pastel Christian Cota dress, and a (see further along) furry Giambattista Valli number. But the sparkling Elie Saab frock she debuted on the red carpet in Berlin looked stunning—even if it left little up to the imagination.

Johnson, who’s Melanie Griffith’s daughter, looked nice in a green Opening Cermony dress in L.A. on Sunday.

We’re on the fence about this one. It’s kind of pretty? But I am genuinely suspicious of wearing a fur peplum in the summer like it’s no big thing. Biel wore this Giambattista Valli spring 2012 couture dress with a tuxedo-y shirt to the London premiere of Total Recall, which she saved with a pair of neon-pink Christian Louboutin heels.

This girl is in Doctor Who: Asylum of the Daleks, which premiered in London this week. She’s also 24, and seems nice enough. But she baffled everyone when she wore this completely mismatched ensemble—and threw on black tights on top of it. Whaaat?

We’re normally fans of Pippa’s hot-librarian style. But when she showed up at a London premiere on Monday looking frighteningly tan—and more than a little bit droopy—we had to ask: party too hard on vacation?

Some said he was channeling Reagan. But when Romney’s recent VP pick wore high-heeled cowboy boots on stage at a Colorado high school on Tuesday, it was more Rick Perry than anything else.
