U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Sunday the U.S. would aid Libyan opposition groups in ousting Muammar Gaddafi. They could use the help: As Libyan rebels close in on Tripoli, Gaddafi is lashing out at them in organized counterattacks. About 2,000 soldiers loyal to Gaddafi surrounded Zawiyah, 30 miles west of Tripoli, while rebels held off a counterattack on Misurata, even shooting down one of Gaddafi’s forces’ planes.
