An article in The New York Times examines the “thinly disguised war” between galleries and auction houses.

Dealers, says Souren Melikian, just scored a point. The reporter visits galleries near auction giants Christie’s and Sotheby’s, and makes the argument that the gallery holdings are of rarer, sometimes finer works, and might be of more interest to collectors than the widely publicized inventories of auction houses. “Dealers may have the last laugh.”
