After 25 years on death row, Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed in Utah by a firing squad at 12:20 Friday morning, making him the first man put to death by firing squad in the United States in 14 years. The Salt Lake City native fell to four bullets, bringing closure for both his family and the families of his victims. "I'm so relieved it's all over," said Barb Webb, the daughter of one of Gardner's victims, upon hearing the news. Gardner's family cheered "I love you, Ron!" after learning of his death. "I'm just glad it's over. I'm glad he's free," said his brother. Gardner was sentenced to death for killing attorney Michael Burdell in the spring of 1985.
