A federal appeals court on Thursday dealt a blow to the same-sex marriage movement by upholding four states’ gay marriage bans, effecitvely reversing district court rulings that had struck down the bans in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. The split between the nation’s courts now virtually guarantees that the Supreme Court will step in.
