Gay-marriage supporters in Washington are declaring an early victory Wednesday after an estimated 50 percent of the state's ballots are showing that 52 percent of voters chose to legalize gay marriage in the state. “We’re really feeling good,” said Zach Silk, a spokesman for Washington United for Marriage, “the numbers point to victory.” Referendum 74—the law to legalize gay marriage in Washington—was signed by Gov. Chris Gregoire, but must be held until it is officially passed by the state. Since Washington is a vote-by-mail state, ballots will likely continue to arrive throughout the week.
