Georgia on Tuesday executed a man convicted of killing his father-in-law during a 1990 custody battle. Fifty-year-old William Sallie was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m. after a lethal injection. Sallie—the ninth inmate in Georgia to be executed this year, more than in any other state—was found guilty of shooting to death John Lee Moore in rural Georgia in 1990. In his final statement, he told witnesses he was “very, very sorry” for his crimes. “I’m just very sorry for everything. I do ask for forgiveness,” he said, adding that he’d prayed many times over the murder.
