German Police Shoot ‘Rampaging’ Man at Berlin Cathedral

Authorities say they do not believe the incident was terror related.

Armed German police swarmed the Berlin Cathedral on Sunday after an officer shot a “rampaging” man wielding a knife in circumstances that were not immediately clear. Eyewitness videos showed the area cordoned off and surrounded by officers holding submachine guns. Berlin police took to Twitter to urge the public to “avoid speculation” about the incident at the popular tourist attraction, later saying there are “no indications that the motive was terrorism or Islamist-related.” A police officer was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital for treatment, as well as the suspect, who was shot in the legs. No further details were immediately available.
