About 54,000 people will have to abandon their Augsburg, Germany homes on Christmas morning so that authorities can defuse a huge 1.8-ton aerial bomb left over from World War II. Sections of the city will be sealed off while police work, and everyone in the area must be evacuated by 10 a.m. on Sunday. It is unclear how long the bomb will take to defuse, and officials say schools will be opened outside of the evacuation zone for those with nowhere else to go. Public transportation will be free to townspeople during the evacuation. Finding such bombs left over from World War II is not uncommon, and the last time a large mass of people were temporarily displaced over a found bomb in the country was in 2011 when 45,000 had to leave the city of Koblenz.
