Megchelsen planned to enter his 1,420-pound pumpkin in the Alaska State Fair, but when a boom truck lifted the pumpkin, it revealed a small hole that sadly makes it ineligible for the competition. "It's not going to count," Megchelsen said. "It's a bummer, but it's the rules." He currently holds the record for giant pumpkins in Alaska, but had hoped to beat his 2011 record of 1,287 lbs. He will still bring his pumpkin—proudly—to weigh-in day.
