Giffords to Move to Outpatient Care

Some good news out of Houston: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is set to be moved to an outpatient treatment center by the end of the month, her spokesperson confirmed Friday. The move comes six months after Giffords was shot during an attack that killed six and injured another 14. Since Jan. 26, Giffords has been treated at the TIRR Memorial Center in the Texas Medical Center for intensive rehabilitation, and the move to outpatient care will be the latest step in her recovery. Despite the great strides she has made in her recovery, Giffords still struggles to communicate and cannot speak in full sentences. Giffords was last seen publicly in April when she attended the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour, led by her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly. While Giffords has been steadily improving, it is still unclear whether she will be able to run for re-election in 2012.
