Gilligan’s Island's Professor Dies

The Professor could build anything, except for, you know, a raft to get off the island. Russell Johnson, who played Professor Roy Hinkley on Gilligan’s Island, passed away at the age of 89 Thursday. The Professor was an ingenious high school science teacher on the iconic show. Dawn Wells, who played Mary Anne on the show, wrote on her Facebook page that her “favorite 2 people are now gone… My heart is broken.” “Parents are happy to have their children watch it,” Johnson said of the show in 2004. “No one gets hurt. No murders. No car crashes. Just good, plain, silly fun—that’s the charm.”
