Actress Gina Carano’s discrimination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm moved one step closer to trial as a California judge declared that Disney “failed to set forth an ‘impenetrable defense’ under the First Amendment.” According to The Hill, Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett rejected Disney’s motion to dismiss the case in a ruling on Wednesday. The case originates from Carano being fired from The Mandalorian after controversial posts she had made around COVID-19 and likening the hate Republicans receive to Nazi Germany. Following the posts and subsequent backlash, she was let go and Lucasfilm called sentiments “abhorrent and unacceptable.” X founder Elon Musk is a supporter of Carano’s suit and even said he’d foot the bill. Following the victory in court, Carano took to Musk’s platform to comment. “I am moved to tears. After a brutal 3 1/2 years, I am being given the opportunity to move forward in the court of law before the judge and my peers to clear my name,” part of her lengthy statement read.
