This would have been awkward: Goldman Sachs has backed out of a dinner being held by the Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union after learning that Occupy Wall Street protesters had also been invited. Goldman also pulled out their $5,000 fundraising pledge for the credit union, which serves New York’s poor. Goldman had been listed as one of the credit union’s chief sponsors on the invitation. “Their money was welcome, but not at the price of giving up what we believe in,” said dinner host Pablo DeFilippi. The unincorporated association of Occupy Wall Street protesters, Friends of Liberty Park, has an account at the Lower East Side People’s Credit Union, and on Oct. 1, the bank decided to make the protesters part of the anniversary dinner, to be held on Nov. 3.
