Google’s philanthropic arm is donating $1 million to UNICEF to support the global fight against the mosquito-borne Zika virus, the company announced late Wednesday. The grant is focused on raising awareness, reducing mosquito populations, developing diagnostics and vaccines, and working with governments to prevent disease transmission. The tech giant also created a donation-matching campaign for Google employees, with the aim of providing an additional $500,000 to UNICEF and the Pan American Health Organizaiton. Google has tapped a team of engineers, data scientists, and designers to work with UNICEF to analyze data to map the spread of the epidemic.
