Google Reader Died of Neglect

R.I.P., RSS

No one wanted to work on it.

Despite having a dedicated fan base that was sorry to see it go, Google Reader basically died of neglect in the halls of Mountain View, California. The reason the RSS reader was shut down, sources tell BuzzFeed, is that chief executive Larry Page didn’t seem to pay much attention to it, and so engineers trying to get Page’s attention didn’t want to work on it, choosing instead to focus on Android, Chrome, Google+, and search. By the time Reader was killed off this summer, it didn’t even have a product manager or full-time engineer.
