Google Tests Self-Driven Cars

Hands-Free

Already able to navigate highway traffic.

Is there anything Google can’t do? Engineers at the search giant have pioneered cars that can drive themselves—maybe better than a human could. Google’s automatic cars have already driven thousands of miles with little or no human control, and can easily handle maneuvers such as merging onto a highway and exiting. Supporters envision a world where computer-driven cars will revolutionize highways, allowing for vehicles to drive closer to each other without risk of incident and drastically reducing automobile-related fatalities. Google has a team of 15 engineers on the project, led by Dr. Sebastian Thrun, director of Stanford’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
