In an announcement on its public policy blog on Friday, Google announced that it will finally give victims of “revenge porn” the option to get the sites removed from Google’s search results. “Our philosophy has always been that Search should reflect the whole web,” Amit Singhal, head of Google Search said. “But revenge porn images are intensely personal and emotionally damaging, and serve only to degrade the victims—predominantly women. So going forward, we’ll honor requests from people to remove nude or sexually explicit images shared without their consent from Google Search results.” A form for victims to send in requests will appear “in the coming weeks.”
