As Congress gears up to submit a new budget blueprint for the nation, Republicans are aiming to make major cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps. The budget cuts would be introduced gradually over the next 10 years to try and get around any White House intervention while President Obama is still in office. If the budget goes into effect, it will likely cut spending by $5 trillion. There is still no clear plan on how to deal with the automatic $54 billion cut in the Pentagon’s budget that was set up in the 2011 budget deal.
