Republican consultant Cheri Jacobus filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit Monday accusing Donald Trump and his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski of libeling her and harming her professional career. After Jacobus publicly criticized Trump earlier this year, the GOP frontrunner took to Twitter to call her a "real dummy" who had "begged my people for a job," with Lewandowski using similar terms to describe her on television. The Daily Beast reported earlier this month that Jacobus was courted to run the Trump campaign but backed out of consideration after having a negative experience with Lewandowski.
Jacobus alleges in the suit that such "false" accusations have caused “enormous damage to her career and reputation, significant emotional distress” and led to online abuse. The plaintiff's filing also reveals details about the Trump campaign, including that Lewandowski boasted in private meetings of Trump's close friendship with cable news icons like Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly of Fox News, and Joe Scarborough of MSNBC; and that the campaign manager openly discussed creating a super PAC to further support Trump's campaign.
