GOP Governor Vetoes NRA Gun Bill

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, a two-term Republican, vetoed a bill that would have allowed some people with restraining orders against them for domestic violence to carry a concealed gun. “We simply can’t and won’t take the chance of exposing domestic abuse victims to additional violence or intimidation,” said Snyder of his decision to nix the NRA-backed bill. Former congresswoman Gabby Giffords directly reached out to Snyder to override the bill. “Domestic violence and access to firearms are a lethal combination, and this policy undermines the safety of American women,” she wrote to the governor. (On Wednesday, Snyder joined the RNC in trying to oust an anti-gay, anti-black, anti-Muslim committeeman from Michigan.)
